Montana Muley

This year I had the opportunity to hunt Montana as a resident. I only had the last part of the hunt to get out so I really hunted hard and spent a lot of time going over maps! The last day of the hunt I spotted this buck at 500 yards out and decided he was a shooter. I was able to stalk in to 375 yards and was lucky enough to make a great shot and put him right down. I am so excited for next year!

Last Chance Buck

Good Friend Cody is having a great year! He was able to take this great buck the last night of his hunt. He told me he hunted hard for a bigger buck but when it came down to the last night he did not feel like having tag soup! Great job Cody!

Muzzleloader Elk

This year my brother Russ and I headed for the hills with muzzleloader elk tags. We stayed in a tent (Not the best idea when it is 16 degrees) but we had a great time even though we came home empty handed.

Dustin's First Buck

In two-thousand and seven good friend Dustin Dickamore was lucky enough to draw an out of state Wyoming deer tag. He hunted hard to turn up and harvest this great double cheater buck!

Big Bull For Cody

Recently in February good friend Cody Hale drew a tag from the Western Hunting and Conservation Expo. He put in for 12 different hunts totaling sixty dollars. He was completely ecstatic upon hearing of the draw results. He wasn't able to scout much due to work but after about twelve days of hard hunting He was able to harvest this bull with his bow. He was hunting with long time friend Kurt Cheever and a recent acquaintance and new friend Kade Church. They fell asleep on a wallow when this bull came bugling in and waking them up. Cody made a great shot to stick him at 67 yards. After about eight hours of packing they were able to finally get some sleep. He has an unofficial gross score of 337 5/8. He is a 6 x 8, having a split brow tine and a cheater on the same side. Congrats to Cody for taking a great bull and making some memories to last a life time!

Boys Hunting Trip

Here is a picture I came across of my brother Russell's kids from a couple of years ago standing so proud with the spike their dad took. He took them with him and thought he would just drive around for the day. The boys ended up spotting this buck with some does. The buck was not quite exactly what Russ was looking for so he tried to tell them it was a doe but they knew better. After a few minutes of three boys begging he decided to punch his tag for them. To this day out of all the bucks Russ has taken this is his best according to his boys!

ALASKA

For the last 2 weeks I have been lucky enough to hang out in Alaska. While I was there Chuck and I went out and chased some bear and did some Silver fishing. Although we saw some great bears we came up empty handed, but the fishing was great! Thanks Chuck for a great two weeks!

It's funny how it is so hard for me to get out of bed unless I am heading for the mountains then I can be up at four-thirty no problem. Go figure?

The moon was full making it easier for me to hike back into an area before the sun came up.

I did not see many bucks this morning but here are some pictures I took of some of the wildlife I was able to see.

This doe didn't see me until I was about ten yards from her.

Every spring the deer drop their antlers to grow a new set and I go and find them. Brooke thinks its crazy but what else am I going to do when there is nothing to hunt. It really is a lot of fun. HUNT EXPO

Its time again for the Hunt Expo. The Western Hunting Conservation Expo is coming February 5-8 2009 to the Salt Palace. This is a great expo with some neat displays. I love this expo simply for the fact that its all about saving the habitat of the wildlife we love. HARDWARE RANCH

Hardware Ranch was purchased in 1945 by the State of Utah from the Box Elder Hardware Company. The ranch was purchased using sportsmans' dollars generated from the Wildlife Restoration Act. The original ranch covered 7,560 acres, but subsequent aquisitions expanded the ranch to about 19,000 acres. The state established the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area as a location to operate a winter feeding program for Rocky Mountain Elk.
Hardware Ranch and Blacksmith Fork Canyon
Cache Valley, located 15 miles down Blacksmith Fork Canyon from the ranch, was the historical winter range for local elk herds. By the 1930s, agriculture and towns had encroached upon this winter feeding area, and friction between elk and farmers was mounting. Feeding the elk at Hardware Ranch helped eliminate this problem. Over the years, the elk have learned that they no longer need to migrate to the valley during the winter to find food.
Hardware Ranch WMA has served as a center for elk research since the 1950s. Understanding the biology and population dynamics of elk is important for sound management of the herds. Today, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources continues these programs and has expanded the mission of the Wildlife Management Area to include public tours of the wintering elk herd.
In addition to elk herd management, Hardware Ranch provides habitat for many species of wildlife, promotes wildlife research and provides visitors with an up-close opportunity to learn about wildlife.

Big Lion For Paul

Here are some pictures from a Lion hunt my buddy Paul Jibson was lucky enough to have last week in Montana. Paul said " I couldn't have done it without my good buddy Tyler Johnerson. We had a great time and I ended up with this great lion. I am deadly at 20 yards, ha ha." Congrats to Paul on a Huge Cat!

COWBOYS OUT

Well today the Dallas Cowboys lost a big game putting them out of the run for the playoffs and ending the season. They had a rough year that started out looking good but not ending well. I thought I would post a few pictures of the good times and highlights of this season.

LAST CHANCE FOR ELK

The extended archery elk hunt ends this weekend so this morning was my last chance at an elk this year. I started the day off hiking alone at five this morning. I was able to get where I had wanted to hunt before the sun came up so I sat down and waited for light. As soon as it started to get light I was glassing all around me. A lot of deer were out feeding as well as some moose and even a few coyotes were out trying to get warm. I saw some fresh elk tracks but were unable to locate them. Even though I was not able to get an elk I took some pictures of my morning. The great thing about hunting is there is always next year.

Reach For The Sky

I guess we can't always hunt for big game so thats when we have to reach for the sky. Here are some of the many birds Dustin Dickamore and his family took on the day after Thanksgiving. I believe they took about twenty five. Nothing to complain about there. Thanks Dust for sharing some great tasting birds with me!!!

Washington Whitetail

Good friend Ryan Jibson is currently living in the state of Washington for school, but as you can see he is making the most of it! This year he was able to harvest this nice eight point whitetail buck. Great job Ryan!!!

This Years Muzzleloader

The first two pictures are of my buck from this years Utah muzzleloader hunt. I first spotted this buck about a month before my hunt started and liked him a lot because of the cheater in the right side. I knew he was not a big buck but decided if i could find him opening morning I would try for him. When opening morning came I was able to locate him at first light. I made a pretty good stock to get within 85 yards of him and five other bucks. I pulled up my muzzleloader and took a shot. A big cloud of smoke filled the air from the powder and I saw deer running everywhere. None of them appeared to be injured so a began questioning my shot. I reloaded and watched where the other bucks went just incase. I walked over to where they were standing and the cheater buck was on the ground. I can't tell you how excited I was to see my first muzzleloader buck on the ground. I hiked back up to my truck and found the guy in the last picture up there looking for a buck. I knew where the other five bucks had gone so we went after them and he was able to get this three point. His first muzzleloader buck also. What a great opening morning!!! I didn't know this guy but like me I am sure he wont easily forget this exciting morning!!

A Guys Blog

Brooke as well as some other wives are not posting what needs to be posted on a blog so I am taking it into my own hands and creating a blog for us guys! To start off the Blog these are some pics of the buck my brother Russ took this year on the rifle hunt. He is a twenty four inch two point with three inch eye guards. We spotted this buck opening morning and Russ made one shot at three hundred and fifty yards to put him down. These are some great pics as well as a great story but for some reason it didn't make the wives blogs?
